This anthem was written in 1911 by Cyril Bradley Rootham (CBR), when the composer had been director of music at St John's College, Cambridge, for ten years.

Opus 24 "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance" is a grace anthem composed for St John's College, Cambridge. It sets three verses from Psalm 16 for unaccompanied voices SATB, and the work is dedicated to the English composer and organist Dr Basil Harwood.
